Sustainability and Data Management Plans in Digital Collections and Archives

SUMMARY: In research and digital curation, data management plans are becoming an essential tool for data stewardship. The article focuses on how to specifically apply them to archiving collection objects and their digitized data in terms of long-term energetic sustainability. Also, what the European standards bring in the area of non-financial, i.e. environmental reporting, is covered. Energy intensity, climate impacts and other parameters related to the materiality oflong-term preservation can affect the management of risks associated with large volumes of data and the sustainability of digitization projects. Organizations will need to consider and design how to incorporate and leverage these data in planning for long-term preservation and data infrastructures.
