Spiridion Wukadinović. A Germanist as the Head of the Technical Library

SUMMARY: This study shows Spiridion Wukadinović, renowned for his works in history of literature, as the head of the library of the technical universities in Prague. It follows primarily two aspects of his career in the aforementioned institution – an unusual way of obtaining the position and troubles calling for his attention. The first ofthem clearly reflects the national struggles between Czechs and Germans, whereas the second was caused mainly by the space limitations and inappropriate organization of the library collection. Wukadinović was determined to reform the library, but because of insufficient funding, he was able to carry out his ideas only in a limited scope. However, his proposals and complaints reveal interesting facts of the working life of the librarians in the last years preceding the World War I.
