Conditions for providing remote work in libraries - survey results

Summary: Remote work, or „home office work“ appeared in libraries to a greater extent during the Covid-19 pandemic. To find out to what extent and under what conditions this form of work has been sustained in libraries was one of the objectives of this survey. The survey was conducted between June and August 2023 and its aim was to map libraries‘ experiences of teleworking: to what extent, under what conditions and which positions are enabled to home office in libraries, or from what reasons why it is not. The questionnaire was developed in two versions – for employers (library managers and directors) and library staff. Both versions of the questionnaire also allowed a comparison of the experiences, satisfaction and needs of employers and employees. Based on the results, the following plans are uderway to develop model documents that would help libraries to facilitate the provision of this form of work to their staff in the future. The investigation was carried out within the framework of the European Social Fund project „Strengthening the level of social dialogue in the sectors and supporting the sector’s adaptation to change“, which involves SKIP and Library Workers‘ Union.
