The Strachota music collection of the family of schoolmasters from Panenský Týnec held by the music department of the National Library of the Czech Republic

Summary: This study deals with the music collection of the Strachota family from the town of Panenský Týnec, preserved in the National Library of the Czech Republic. It is a collection of about 500 musical copies from the last third of the 18th and first half of the 19th century, accumulated by four generations of this family of schoolmasters and cantors. The core collection consists of church music – organ, chamber or symphonic. Next to German and Austrian composers many Czech authors are represented: František Xaver Brixi, Franz Joseph Öhlschlägel, Josef Ferdinand Norbert Seger, two members of the Kopřiva family from Cítoliby or Jakub Jan Ryba. Several autographs of church music composed by Josef Cyril Strachota (1746–1809) are also extant in the collection. Up to date results of the research into the Strachota family and its music activities are provided, repertoire characteristics of the material described and important topics, which can be further investigated, are pointed out.
