Online databases as a tool for book binding research

Summary: For the book history research, it is now more often possible to use digitized materials, which are provided to researchers in specialized databases. This article presents a comparative analysis of important online databases providing access to historical book bindings, particularly EBDB, USB Köln, Bayerische Staatsbibliothek, ProBok, The British Library and NUSK. For the databases descri bed, it focuses mainly on their content, operating institutions and search possibilities. It concludes with a comparison of the databases in terms of their relevance for the study of book bindings made in the Czech Lands.
