Children’s reading during the coronavirus pandemic

This paper discusses results of a quantitative survey Reading during the 2021 pandemic. The aim of this survey was to describe changes in the media behaviour of the Czech population aged 15+ due to the coronavirus pandemic, focusing on reading habits and readership. The research was carried out on a representative sample of the Czech Internet population 15+, on a sample of 1005 respondents using the CAWI method (online data collection). The research also included questions aimed at parents of minors in order to find out parents‘ views on the effects of the pandemic on children‘s leisure activities and their reading habits. According to the parents, the children spent significantly more time playing electronic games, using social networks and watching movies, series and videos. Reading was only marginally affected by the pandemic, which slightly encouraged reading of short texts on the Internet.
