Analyses of the age, educational and salary structure of library staff in the Czech Republic in 2020/2021: survey results

The National Library of the Czech Republic conducts regular surveys of the salary, age and educational structure of library staff in the Czech Republic since 1998. The last survey was carried out in the first half of 2021. Surveys conducted repeatedly at approximately 5-year intervals also make it possible to monitor trends in the staff structure in libraries in the Czech Republic over more than the last 20 years. In addition to the socio-demographic structure of library staff (age, gender, education), language skills and loyalty to the institution, the survey covers the structure of staff on library and non-library positions and their need for retraining, length of practice and education of library leaders as well as the existence of normative documents in the library. The questionnaire newly introduced questions about the most demanded subjects for further education of librarians. Last but not least, the survey addressed the issues of salaries, namely placing the librarians and other employees into particular salary grades and the average salary in each grade.
