Terminographical work and the TDKIV database

Summary: After the introductory presentation of the Czech Terminology Database of Library and information science (TDKIV being the Czech acronym) the author delimits the merits of fields correlated with terminological work. Then she deals with a number of professional papers analysing the Czech librarian terminology that have been published after 2003 down to the present, i.e. after the foundation of the TDKIV database. A short history of said database follows. The crucial part of the study is an assessment of how the profesionals terms for this database have been prepared from a librarian´s and a linguist´s viewpoint, with concrete examples. The working out of headwords is first described from a theoretical position, based upon the application of the methodology for elaboration of headwords, then complemented by a practical standpoint of view, namely upon her own experience, the author being a database administrator.

Department of Photography of Film and TV School of Academy of Performing Arts (Prague) in Havana – Starting Czech-Cuban collaboration in protecting the photographic cultural heritage?

Summary: In the course of 2014 a joint scientific project was carried out by experts in the field of photography restoration at the Prague FAMU Academy together with certain scientific institutions on Cuba, in particular the Photo-Theque of the City of Havana. Two working visits of Czech specialists in Cuba took place during which the topics for common activities were agreed and the most endangered parts of the photographic cultural heritage in Cuba, or rather in Havana, were determined. The project covered also a practical workshop and a conference focusing upon the preservation and restoration of pictures made by all sorts of historical photographic techniques. The main purpose of the workshop consisted in exploring photographic collections in Havana and training professionals in a number of cultural institutions how to apply conservation and restoration techniques in photography. The Czech delegation also visited the José-Martí-National Library, the National Archives and the Cuban Institute of History with special orientation upon modern history of the 19th and 20th century. The delegation was offered insight into the exceptionally interesting collections and funds of photography of all these institutions, resulting into suggestions of possible improvements of specific care. The programme scheduled for 2014 having been successfully met, continuing collaboration in 2015 is envisaged.

The meaning and purpose of library in children’s and adolescents’ conception

Summary: The paper informs about a research project that is being implemented by teachers and students of the Institute of the Czech language and Library Science, Faculty of Philosophy and Science, Silesian University in Opava, focussing upon the determination of the importance and the role of the library in an intergenerational perspective. The paper presents the philosophy and the methodology of the research project, its chief objectives and the single targets, analysing also the motives having lead to qualitative approach and behavioral research methods. Psychometric elements as well as a mixed-method strategy have been used for data acquisition and their analysis. In general, the paper intends to show ways allowing very effective exploration and utilisation of both general and specific users´ attitudes. Optimizing standards for bibliographic description of monographic electronic publications in the Czech libraries network

Summary: The new RDA cataloguing rules (Resource Description and Access) will become the standard cataloguing practice within the Czech Republic in 2015. The article informs about the changes of cataloguing policy as well about the analyses of the existing practice carried out in the working groups, having resulted in determining the methodology under the RDA rules. The main focus is the area of electronic publications whose processing is the topics of the NAKI project being solved by the National Library of the Czech Republic.
